Chapmen "Chappie" Wells Inducted 1988 Elgin High School Class of 1925 Biography Chappie Wells was an instrumental member of Elgin High School Basketball teams which won back—to—back state championships in 1924—25. He was named First team All—Tournament in 1925. He led the team in scoring at the Joliet Sectional where he won a game by making a basket while lying on the floor. Wells also participated in football and track. An outstanding local golfer, he captured the Elgin Country Club crown 5 times (1936, 1940, 1941, 1944, and 1954) and the city title in 1954. Chappie has made a hole—in—one nine times. |
