Richard Smith was born in Elgin on June 9, 1928. He was a 1946 graduate of Elgin High School. Dick has been married to Marilyn (Mann) since June 19, 1948, and has four children – two boys and two girls – and eight grandchildren. Dick retired from Illinois Bell in January 1989 after 42 years of service. He has been a member of the Elgin Sports Hall of Fame Foundation’s Board of Directors since 1997, serving as secretary since 2000.
